Love is in the air! Valentine’s celebrations might be slightly different now you have kids, but it doesn’t mean they can’t be fun.
Check out our ‘oh so sweet’ Valentine’s Day activities to do with your kids.
- Make Valentine’s cards
Get crafty with the kids and give the special family members in your life some joy on St Valentine’s Day. If your baby is still tiny, your can use their fingerprints to paint the sweetest of hearts onto a card, or their handprints to make Valentine’s flowers.
Toddlers might enjoy painting their own patterns or sticking a number of cut out hearts onto a card. Let them be creative and make cards for as many family members as they want to. To keep this activity green, use recycled paper or cut out your hearts from old magazines, designed for the bin. Don’t forget your plastic-free Pura wipes, for cleaning up tiny fingers up afterwards!
- Make “I love you” videos
This activity is great for all ages and one sure to put a smile on the faces of your loved ones. Record and send little video message saying, “I love you”, featuring your beautiful kids. Older toddlers may be able to say the words themselves, while you can spread messages of love on behalf of smaller babies.
If your tot enjoys dressing up, get them to put on their favourite costumes for the video message and encourage them to dance or sing – it’s their moment!
- Valentine’s kitchen disco
Your clubbing days may seem like a distant memory, but dancing is good for the soul, whatever your age! This Valentine’s Day, choose your favourite love songs, turn up the music and dance with the kids, or your baby in arms, like no one's watching.
Toddlers love to dance, and it encourages them to be curious and imaginative. It also helps them foster balance and coordination skills and well as simply being good fun!
- Chocolate covered strawberries
Make these sweet treats with your kids and enjoy eating them as a Valentine’s Day snack. Easy and delicious, you can simply melt chocolate in the microwave, or in a heatproof bowl over a simmering pan, and wait for it to cool before dipping in the strawberries and setting them aside to cool.
A perfect indulgence for those with a sweet tooth, chocolate covered strawberries are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins. And if you opt for dark chocolate, it contains more cocoa solids which are responsible with many of the health benefits associated with chocolate and also less sugar than the milk or white varieties.
Enjoy!
